Since 2001, David S. Mackey, a Licensed Professional Counselor has directed New Strength Counseling. Reaching the counseling needs of individuals and couples, David worked with those struggling with Depression, Anxiety, Schizoaffective disorders, Bi-polar disorders, relational and social conflicts, and various addictions. LifeSTAR North Jersey, LLC has been established by David because for the past 9 years the work with men and couples struggling with sexual addiction has increased to represent about 40% of his counseling practice.
David’s BS in Bible and Bachelor of Social Work degrees, from Philadelphia Biblical University were a valuable educational and spiritual foundation for reaching the various needs of people. Lay ministry in the local church and social work with evangelical and government agencies outside Philadelphia were further preparation for service to and care of people. Still further experience and preparation was found in receiving a Masters in Education from Wheaton College Graduate School and work as a director for Christian summer camps for children from 1986 through 1990. All the education and experience were steps and preparation toward formal individual and couples counseling.
Formal individual, couples and group work began in 1990 through a Christian residential program for men struggling with addictions. After receiving a Masters Degree in Counseling from Philadelphia Biblical University, David worked on the Short-term Care Unit at St. Barnabas Behavioral Healthcare Center and then in 1998 became Clinical Coordinator at the New Life Clinics in Union and Howell, NJ. Finally, when New Life Ministries began the New Life Health Network, David Mackey established New Strength Counseling as a member of the health network, to provide Counseling services throughout New Jersey. David counsels individuals, groups, and couples with a wide range of counseling issues.
Since its inception, David has been a Group Facilitator on the east coast for the Every Man’s Battle Workshops provided by New Life Ministries. As a result, David’s practice has grown to focus on men and couples who are torn apart by sexual purity and addiction issues. David’s personal life journey has included difficulties in which being the counselee was a great benefit towards healing wounds in the heart, soul, and mind. This personal journey has been perhaps the best preparation toward caring for others through professional counseling. David’s Christian faith only strengthens his ability further to reach those with faith and those without faith, with the truth of how one can find healing from a wounded and disconnected heart.
